Personal Life

He is married by his wife Cecil Mañalac. He has 2 kids, Isabelle and Lucius Mañalac. He is the brother of GMA reporter, Lia Mañalac-Del Castillo.

Rivermaya (1993-1998)

In 1993, Rivermaya was formed by PR practitioner Lizza Nakpil and film director Chito Roño, who planned on developing a musical group into a rock/show band. The band was originally formed under the name Xaga.

The band evolved through a series of line-ups that included Nathan Azarcon on bass, Rico Blanco on keyboards and Perfecto de Castro on guitars. The initial drummer was replaced by former Bazurak bandmate and childhood friend, Mark Escueta. Bamboo was a schoolmate of Azarcon, who came on board as lead vocals. The band was managed by Lizza Nakpil and Chito Roño.

With Mañalac as frontman, the band members decided to disband Xaga and re-establish the band as Rivermaya. They started developing original songs like "Ulan" (Rain), "214", and "Awit ng Kabataan" (Song of the Youth) in demo form for prospective recording companies. They were quickly signed to the Sony BMG Philippines label.

The band released 2 more hit albums Trip and Atomic Bomb, which produced hits like "Kisapmata" (Blink of an eye), "Himala" (Miracle), "Panahon Na Naman" (Here Comes the Season), "Hilo" (Dizzy), "Princess of Disguise", "Hinahanap-Hanap Kita" (Always searching for you), "Elesi", "Kung Ayaw Mo, Huwag Mo" (If you don't like, then don't) and "If".

After Rivermaya embarked on a US tour, it was at that time that Mañalac decided to stay in Los Angeles, USA together with his family, while the other remaining members went back to the Philippines.

Bamboo (2003-2011)

In 2003, after living in Los Angeles following the Rivermaya tour in America, Mañalac returned to the Philippines. His former bandmate in Rivermaya, Nathan Azarcon, introduced him to Ira Cruz and Vic Mercado then jammed together and formed a band.

They received numerous awards, including "Band of the Year" in the 2004 MTV Pilipinas and 2004 NU Rock Awards. Mañalac was also awarded "Vocalist of the Year" in the 2004 NU Rock Awards. He also won an award in the 2004 MTV Style Awards in the Rock Style category.

In January 2011, news had been circulating that the band has allegedly disbanded. DJ KC Montero of Wave 89.1 confirmed the breakup on The KC Show and via Twitter.

Montero clarified that all the members of the band "have decided to move on," and that he does not know why they called it quits.

Bamboo finally confirmed the break-up of the band in an official statement posted before midnight of January 11 on the group's website.

Solo Career (2011)

On September 22, 2011, Mañalac released his first single "Questions", as a solo artist. His debut album, titled "No Water, No Moon", was released on November 20, 2011 (11/20/2011).
